Toastmasters

Our 8th-grade students were selected by the local Chevron chapter of Toastmasters to participate in an 8-week Program with Toastmasters International. Led by Alan Paolini and Ron Catoire from Chevron, students learn under the club name of "MasterSpeakers."

We begin in January by electing classmates as our President, Vice President, and Secretary. Each week, students participate by either presenting a prepared or impromptu speech or serving as an evaluator. Students receive immediate peer feedback to help them make improvements and develop stronger public speaking skills. We end the program with a Toastmasters' Celebration, where parents and families have an opportunity to observe first hand how much their 8th-graders have learned.

One of our 8th-grade graduates, Angela Hinojosa, was selected to speak at Chevron for their employee Toastmasters' Luncheon and Celebration. She took some time off from her busy Carondelet High School schedule to present her engaging speech about auditioning for The X Factor. She pleased her adult audience when she broke into song during the middle of her speech, and she received many handshakes at the end of the event. We are proud of you, Angela!
